Dehydration Scary Fact
Dehydration kills EVERY DAY. It also gives you headaches and forces your organs to work harder. You can solve this by drinking some water. 20,000 Egyptians died in the 1967 war with Israel not from battle — from DEHYDRATION
Coffee Junkie?
Like hitting several cups of coffee in the morning with some “chillin’ and relaxing on your ass time”? A study at Brigham Young University found that you will stay sharper if you spread your consumption throughout the day.
Slow Down and Chew your food
Not only will slowing down help you to eat less and control your intake of food, it will help with any gastro-reflux issues you may have. A study at The University of S. Carolina found that gastro reflux was reduced an average of 20% just by slowing down at the dinner table.
Crunchy TV Watching Snack
Yes, snacking in front of the TV is a great way to pack on the pounds but there are also times when it is nice to sit with the family and watch a movie and relax and have a snack. Picking something healthy is better than winging it…..
A half cup of Edamame in the shell makes a nice snack that satisfies that desire for a something savory and salty. At only 90 calories and 168 mg of sodium, you can have your snack and not blow your diet or sodium intake out of the water
Scary Burger King Reality
When hitting the drive through because you don’t “have time” for a healthy meal, consider this — it takes over 2 hours of walking to burn off a Whopper – that is without fries, without cheese, without a sugary soda.
Do you have time to spend 10 minutes on a healthier choice now??
Be sure to get enough Iron
Some people, especially women and people who are trying to lose weight should look at their iron intake. Natural sources are ideal (like spinach, beef, oysters, kale) and there are some good fortified choices too like Cheerios.

Children Need YOU TO BE the cook and the PARENT
There is an epidemic of obese children in this country and I read a HORRIBLE article on one of the Atlanta news blogs about children getting weight loss surgery.
Sorry but I don’t believe there are very many people who actually NEED that and there really can’t be any children who do.
Sure there are tons of kids who are overweight and struggling. That is where YOU as the parent have to stand up and help. Children don’t magically know what to eat or how many calories is in this or that or how many servings of vegetables they need or even how much is a serving.
Take some time to talk to your children about healthy eating, servings, portion size, a balanced diet. Do this whether your kids are thin or not because it is a lesson that will benefit them for their ENTIRE LIFE.
Cross Contamination Risks
Think it’s food poisoning? A study done by North Carolina State University found that cross contamination occurs in restaurant kitchens an average of once per hour. Things like using the same knife or cutting board for vegetables as raw meat. These can also occur at home so be sure to use good kitchen practices and stay safe!
Are you really hungry??
When you are trying to lose weight it is very hard to understand hunger pains. Thirst can disguise itself as hunger if you are dehydrated and many people are in a constant state of dehydration so they don’t even know what real hunger is in comparison to thirst.
Also, many people eat for comfort. Don’t feel guilty about this, someone taught you this behavior. Just learn to understand it so you can address what is really bothering you rather than masking it with food.
When you feel hunger, ask yourself — when did I last eat? If it was several hours ago (3-5) then there is a good chance you are hungry. If it was less, ask yourself if you are stressed or upset by something and have a glass of water. If after 20 minutes, you are no longer hungry, then it was thirst.
For some people the emotional eating is so severe that they should keep a mood note along with their food journal to really dig out the emotional eating from the “eating to fuel their body”
